When planning your own game of Valheim, understanding the different types of armor available is critical. Fortunately, today, we’re looking at some of the key things you need to know about carapace armor in Valheim to help you decide whether this is the right type of gear for your own Norse adventure.
With numerous different types of armor available in the game, it’s not necessarily easy to choose which set to craft for your character in Valheim. As part of this choice, you may well want to consider creating carapace armor for your game - and there are several features of this armor that can make it an excellent option for your character.
Carapace armor is a new type of armor introduced in the Mistlands update, providing a significant level of protection. The armor set has three distinct pieces and is crafted primarily - as the name would suggest - from carapaces, which are dropped by seekers and seeker soldiers. This chitinous material’s features make it an excellent natural choice for use in armor making, and as such, carapace armor is a valuable option to consider.
Unfortunately, while the carapace armor is definitely a strong and durable set, it does not actually provide specific perks, such as the Eitr-weave armor. Given this, the main benefit of the carapace armor set is its strength and durability, both of which help make the a strong and durable option.
Valheim players have a choice of three different types of carapace armor in total, which can be used alongside eachother. These include the carapace helmet, the carapace breastplate for 32, and the carapace greaves.
At level one, all of these armor types provide 32 armor points. In terms of weights, the carapace helmet weighs in at 3, and the breastplate and greaves are 10 each. Moreover, the breastplate and greaves both reduce movement speed by 5% each, meaning that a complete set of carapace armor will reduce your movement speed in total by 10%.
By now, we’ve considered what carapace armor is in Valheim - but you’re probably still wondering how to make each of these different types of armor. Fortunately, provided you can get hold of enough carapaces, the carapace armor set isn’t actually so difficult to craft.
Before starting, it’s worth pointing out that you’ll need a black forge to craft and upgrade. The black forge is made from ten black marble, ten Yggdrasil wood, and five black cores. As with other workbenches and crafting tables, the black forge needs a roof and 70% cover in order to work properly.
Once you’ve built a black forge, the different materials needed to craft each type of carapace armor are as follows: Carapace helmet: 16 carapace, 3 scale hides, 2 mandibles, and 4 refined eitr Carapace breastplate: 20 carapace, 3 scale hides, 5 iron, and 4 refined eitr Carapace greaves: 20 carapace, 3 scale hides, 5 iron, and 4 refined eitr
Carapaces can be dropped by seekers and seeker soldiers, while scale hides can be sourced from Mistland hares. Meanwhile, refined eitr can be crafted from sap and soft tissue using the eitr refinery, and iron can be smelted from scrap iron or iron ore. Given this, these materials aren’t necessarily the easiest to come across, so you’ll need to plan in advance when taking down seekers, hares, and the like if you’re planning to make a full set of carapace armor.
Of course, taking out so many foes is quite the undertaking; however, if you’re playing with friends, this does become quite a bit easier. Before starting a multiplayer game, though, make sure you’ve started your own premium Valheim server with ScalaCube to ensure you’re getting the most from your game, with numerous excellent features to enhance your gameplay such as DDoS protection, full access to your server settings, 24/7 uptime and lag-free gaming, mod support, and so much more.
Carapace armor in Valheim is crafted at the black forge. The black forge can also be used to craft several other armor types alongside the carapace armor, including the As and Flametal sets.
You’ll need a total of 56 carapaces to craft a full set of carapace armor at Level 1. However, this increases to a total of 84 if you intend to upgrade your carapace armor to Level 2, and a huge 140 carapaces to fully upgrade all of your carapace armor to Level 3. Keep in mind that you’ll also need scale hides, mandibles, iron, and refined eitr to craft this armor set.
The carapace armor set includes several different types of armor, including a helmet, breastplate, and greaves.
Not only does it have an incredibly striking look, but carapace armor is undoubtedly also one of the most powerful sets of armor in the game. Given this, when planning your next game of Valheim, it’s well worth considering whether carapace armor might be the right choice for your own needs. But remember: while the carapace armor is definitely a strong set of gear, there are still several equipment types that even put carapace armor to shame. Still, until such a time as you can create the higher-grade Flametal armor, carapace armor is an incredible option to consider.
