Microsoft has ended the Xbox Game Pass mobile app while merging all its features within the main Xbox mobile app to provide users with a streamlined user experience. The standalone Game Pass mobile service completed its service, which combined Game Pass library browsing with subscription management and queueing of game downloads.
Microsoft ended its Game Pass app support in late 2024 and stopped app downloads in November 2024 before making it unavailable in March 2025. Now, users find a goodbye message in place of the Game Pass app, which automatically redirects them to the Xbox application.
Microsoft makes this choice as part of its initiative to minimize mobile application numbers while creating one unified mobile experience. The new Xbox app delivers Game Pass functionality, party chat features, social platform tools, remote installation and cloud save management. The update adds new features to a specific area of functionality, but game streaming remains unavailable at the app level due to iOS restrictions. Therefore, users must access game streaming through their web browser.
However, the public reception has been mixed so far with this decision. The new interface brings convenience to some but many users dislike the lack of a specialized gaming platform. Users experience confusion because of UI changes and minor system issues which occurred when the platform transitioned. Microsoft shows dedication to developing the Xbox app as its main mobile gateway and continues to reduce separate mobile applications.
The developer team plans to combine individual features into the Xbox application system.
March 2025.
Only in browsers.
No, just relocated.
