The hype for Assassin’s Creed Shadows is real, but so are the leaks. Some lucky players have got their hands on the game weeks ahead of its official launch, and leaked footage is spreading across the internet. Ubisoft doesn't seem very pleased.
Recently, Ubisoft admitted the leaks on social media and asked fans not to look at, or most importantly, share them. They also added a disclaimer saying that “leaks” are not what the final product will look like. They are still fine-tuning, to which they said there will be an important update when the game launches for Assassin’s Creed and it will require a day one Assassin’s Creed patch. Ubisoft also asked players to respect the experience by not spoiling surprises for others.
Reactions to the leaks have been mixed. Some players worry that if physical copies are already out and unfinished, the final release might not be much better. Others argue that the leaked versions are outdated and missing key improvements. The debate has also sparked discussions about the industry’s shift toward a digital-only future, where leaks like this might become less frequent.
Despite concerns, Ubisoft reassured fans that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is still on track for its March 20 release. The developers even teased some upcoming official reveals, encouraging fans to stay patient. With the first-ever Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan, expectations are sky-high. Leaks or not, the full experience is just around the corner.
On March 20, 2025, Shadows will be released on the PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, macOS, and iPadOS.
According to creative director Jonathan Dumont comment in a December 2024 Reddit AMA, the story for Assassins Creed Shadows will last 30-60 hours.
