The PC port of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has peaked at 30,690 concurrent players on Steam as of writing. While solid, it’s behind The Last of Us Part 1’s peak of 36,496 players during its PC launch on March 2023.
While Part 2 got the hype, its performance so far indicates a somewhat kinder audience. This is certainly not the first time a Sony console release has been a hot topic, as the original game was released in 2020 to critical acclaim and controversy, which could have affected PC launch numbers. It also didn’t help that not all of the remaster’s new features, like the No Return roguelike mode, could be enough to bring in a bigger audience.
Sony’s strategy of porting its PlayStation exclusives to PC has been hit and miss. Compared to this, God of War and Marvel’s Spiderman Remaster had higher peaks with 73,529 and 66,436 concurrent players, respectively. On the contrary, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered falls into the middle of Sony’s PC releases list.
For reference, The Last of Us Part 1 PC port was released with technical issues but still had more players. This may suggest that something other than past performance, including narrative appeal and novelty, has a strong impact on the success of a PC release.
A: 30,690 players.
The highest number of concurrent players it reached was at 36,496.
God of War, with 73,529 players.
Yes, but despite that, it still managed to reach a higher peak player count.
