It looks like a new Star Wars game is in the works, and we already have some early details. The rumoured project, a turn-based strategy game named Star Wars: Zero Company, was being developed by Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor.
Leak suggests that the game uses an isometric camera and original locations between the Clone Wars. For the tactical missions across the galaxy, players will control a squad of operatives, such as Clone Troopers, Jedi, and Mandalorian. The gameplay, on the other hand, is from the XCOM bed, with a lot of emphasis on cover mechanics, squad coordination, and positioning. Also mentioned is a permadeath option, where the players have to start over everything from scratch.
Bit Reactor’s involvement is a major step. Of course, that studio is made up of former Firaxis developers and veterans in the strategy genre, which adds weight to this project’s potential. Respawn has built its name off titles like Jedi: Fallen Order, but this would be the first time it has tried its hands on the strategy genre.
We can see various leaked images that apparently show detailed environments and a high-contrast stylized art style. As for these, they are still unofficial, and no gameplay has been confirmed yet. But more information may come soon. Reports also indicate that Star Wars: Zero Company will be revealed at the upcoming Japan Star Wars Celebration.
Star Wars Fans should take the leaks with a grain of salt until then. The release details remain unconfirmed, and no proper announcement has been made. If true, though, this is a huge shake up in Star Wars gaming.
