Sad news for Robocraft 2 fans because it is officially announced that the game has stopped its development and decided to put it to an end. The studio itself is also closing its doors, bringing an end to its journey—and its games.
A heartfelt message shared on Robocraft 2 discord server, stated that the “current market conditions and server costs” have made it difficult to continue Robocraft 2’s development. This also means you will never see the much-anticipated new version
The sunset isn’t limited to Robocraft 2, though. The original Robocraft and Freejam’s other title, CardLife, will also be winding down in the coming weeks. The studio has already started pulling the plug—players will no longer see robocraft 2 steam charts or be able to purchase it on Steam, though the original game and CardLife remain up for now. If you’ve followed Robocraft 2’s journey, the cancellation might not come as a complete shock. The game has struggled with a Mostly Negative Steam rating from 1,760 reviews, citing technical issues and a lack of the magic that made its predecessor a hit.
At its heart, Robocraft 2 was an ambitious vehicle-based online combat game where players had to create their own vehicles. However, due to market challenges, the game's ambition fell short. Freejam’s closure adds to a growing list of studios impacted by industry downsizing. While smaller developers like Freejam are bearing the brunt, even industry giants like Microsoft and Sony haven’t been immune to layoffs.
Here’s hoping fans of Robocraft find solace in its legacy—and in its remaining days.
Robocraft 2 was released on November 7, 2023, and the best part is that this vehicle-based PVP is free.
The makers are recreating Robocraft 2 from the ground up, bringing it much closer to a real sequel to the original from 2014-2015, with better graphics and technology.
To get access, you have to visit the Robocraft Steam page and hit the request access button on the screen. It is that simple.
