Powerwash Simulator Receives VR Support

The VR version of PowerWash Simulator created by FuturLab will stop receiving support following financial underachievement. Launched on Meta Quest in November 2023, the VR edition offered players an immersive cleaning experience with 1:1 motion control and 360-degree environments. Even after positive feedback from the community, the cost-to-revenue ratio was unhealthy, which was the sole reason for its termination.
FuturLab CEO Kirsty Rigden made it clear in a statement that VR development exceeded the company's capacity to maintain staffed production. The software development firm redirected its VR division to different assignments to avoid employee layoffs. The game and its current DLCs persist as available downloads on the Meta Quest platform while developers will discontinue any further developments.
This situation reveals how VR gaming suffers from high development costs and its restricted roster of potential customers. PowerWash Simulator still maintains strong player support outside VR since its pleasing and calming gameplay consistently attracts a loyal fanbase. The development studio FuturLab keeps possibilities open for future VR endeavours but currently focuses on more ongoing projects.
