PlayStation Network users faced widespread outages from February 7 to February 8, 2025, as their online services remained disrupted for 24 hours during that period. Users experienced complete disruption to play multiplayer games and access their digital content as well as the PlayStation Store services resulting in widespread anger among PS gamers. Plenty of users struggled with one major issue since account management alongside online features stopped working properly while players were unable to play with their friends or access their games.
As compensation for the outage, Sony decided to provide subscribers of PlayStation Plus with five additional days of PS membership. The complimentary PlayStation Plus time met favourable feedback but many users were dissatisfied with the offer since they were not PS Plus subscribers. A significant number of digital purchase and free-to-play game users experienced service interruptions yet they did not qualify for compensation so they demanded universal coverage. Sony's failure to explain the outage's cause worsened player frustration.
The company issued an apology while ensuring users that all service functions have been brought back to normal. Sony has not provided further information about potential future compensations or the security measures that will protect against similar problems. Users who experienced the outage will automatically receive their extended five-day service as the system applies it during the forthcoming period.
The compensation of five extra days of service applies exclusively to PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Sony did not make any announcement to compensate users who are not part of their PlayStation Plus plan.
The company plans to apply for the extension automatically during the following days.
Sony did not specify the reason behind this service interruption.
