Ghost hunters, get ready—Phasmaphobia just got even creepier! Developer Kinetic Games has rolled out a new update, bringing voice recognition to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Now, console players can talk directly to ghosts using VOSK Voice Recognition, just like their PC counterparts.
With this update, console players can use the Phasmaphobia Spirit Box to ask ghosts questions like, "Are you friendly?" or "Give us a sign." Even better (or worse?), calling out the ghost’s name will temporarily increase paranormal activity. The update also integrates voice commands with Cursed Possessions like the Ouija Board and Monkey Paw, making haunted encounters even more intense.
Setting up voice recognition varies by console. Phasmaphobia PlayStation players can use the DualSense controller’s built-in mic or a headset, while Xbox players must rely on an external headset. If an Xbox mic disconnects mid-game, the system will automatically switch to text mode.
Aside from voice recognition, this update fixes a major Xbox bug that prevented solo players from earning achievements in offline mode. Localization adjustments and other minor fixes round out the patch. The Phasmaphobia update ensures console players get the full horror experience. So grab your gear, check your mic, and get ready to whisper to the dead—just be careful what you say!
There is more Phasmophobia to come. With a player character revamp, a new tiny map, and Easter, Halloween, and holiday season improvements scheduled for 2025.
The Horror 2.0 update is intended to represent the game's full release and the conclusion of early access. It will primarily focus on existing ghost dynamics such as hunts, ghost events, and interactions, while also introducing new ghost models and hallucinations.
Some Phasmophobia maps, notably Bleasdale Farmhouse and Grafton Farmhouse, are set to be redesigned in 2025. Kinetic also plans to offer a new map by the end of the year.
