The following insights target PC gamers only. A new report from Epyllion CEO Matthew Ball titled The State of Video Gaming in 2025 has confirmed what many of us suspected: Gaming PCs now lead the market by achieving higher revenue growth than gaming consoles.
According to the report about the gaming industry, gaming console revenue stopped growing in 2021 however PC gaming stands out as the leading category in this static field. PC gaming has produced 20% more income over three years whereas console game sales dropped. The Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 have sold seven million less units in their 49-month release period than their predecessor consoles. So, what’s driving the PC gaming boom? Epyllion states that better performance options lead to greater system flexibility. PCs boast a vast game library with better backward compatibility, easier access to livestreaming and social platforms, and higher-end performance. Plus, advancements in portable PC gaming devices, like SteamOS, have added fuel to the fire.
And let’s not forget the Roblox generation—kids raised on the block-building platform aren’t as likely to jump to consoles when PCs offer everything they need to game and create. While there’s some debate over market share data (with discrepancies between IDG, Newzoo, and others), Ball stands firm that PC gaming is on an unstoppable trajectory, especially as systems like Steam Deck bridge the gap between traditional PCs and consoles.
Bottom line? PC gamers, you’re playing the long game—and it’s paying off.
According to a report by investment research firm Epyllion, PC games have surpassed console game income, accounting for 53% of non-mobile gaming sales.
A gaming PC is essentially a console at this point. Overall, the Xbox has already transformed into a PC and continues to be the console most closely related to the pc.
PC gained popularity over the years and has only grown to date, whereas consoles saw a decline starting in 2021.
