Indie survival game Pacific Drive has officially hit a major milestone, selling over one million copies across Pacific Drive PC and PlayStation just before its first anniversary. Ironwood Studios' debut title has captivated players with its eerie atmosphere, unique roguelike mechanics, and a story that puts your beat-up station wagon at the heart of the adventure.
Despite being a first-time release from a small studio, Pacific Drive made waves in the industry, even securing a nomination for Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards 2024. While it lost to Balatro, the nomination alone was a massive win for Ironwood. Players, however, have spoken loud and clear with their wallets, proving that Pacific Drive’s blend of survival horror and road-tripping chaos was worth the extra development time after its 2023 delay.
But that’s not all—Pacific Drive is gearing up for an even bigger future. In December 2024, a TV adaptation was announced, with the production team behind horror hits M3GAN and Malignant bringing the game's unsettling world to life. While details are scarce, the adaptation could introduce an even wider audience to the game’s mysterious, storm-ravaged Pacific Northwest. With one million copies sold, an expanding fanbase, and potential updates on the horizon, Pacific Drive is proving that a well-crafted indie game can hold its own in a competitive market. Buckle up—Ironwood Studios’ ride is just getting started.
Pacific Drive comes with 18 GB of accessible space. Additional Requirements: 64-bit processor and operating system.
Pacific Drive is as unpredictable as it is rewarding. It may be wonderful, annoying, and maddening all at once. There's a nice concept here, but most of its promise is squandered by a difficult mid-game learning curve and unpredictable risks.
Critics gave the game mostly excellent reviews, praising its atmosphere, characters, and vehicle design but criticizing its repetitive and challenging gameplay. It received multiple award nominations and sold more over a million units by February 2025.
