Blizzard Entertainment makes substantial changes to Overwatch 2 by including loot boxes while adding hero banning to gameplay. Realm Price boxes will return to Overwatch 2 as part of Season 15 on February 18, 2025 for players to obtain randomized cosmetic items just like in the original title. Each weekly challenge and battle pass allows players to acquire loot boxes that have the potential to grant rare epic or legendary items available in the free and premium tiers. Blizzard set a clear system where players can see drop rates and obtain guaranteed legendary items after a specified number of box openings.
The Season 16 update in April 2025 brings hero banning in Overwatch 2 Competitive Play. Players in Overwatch must conduct three hero bans through voting before the remaining four choices get locked for that particular match. Strategic depth is the goal of this change, which also intends to lower hero influence within the existing Meta. The Overwatch community shows mixed reactions to the Hero ban system as their favorite heroes may become frequently unavailable.
The upcoming Season 16 will introduce the Stadium game mode to Overwatch 2 players. Overwatch 2 brings Stadium 5v5 to the game, featuring selectable hero builds and a third-person pov. The development team at Blizzard is launching a feature that allows players to select the available maps during matchmaking.
