Once Human players are voicing concerns over the game’s cosmetic pricing. While completely avoiding pay-to-win mechanics, the heavy premium cost of cosmetic upgrades led to player backlash.
Players have commented that some cosmetic outfits are being offered at $40 and that some building skins have been priced at $50. This type of expensive stuff has provoked an alarm of predatory monetisation, which is adopted in gacha-style games. The arrival of the Pyro Glide loot crate event only added fuel to the fire, with the players complaining about the cost and the arbitrary nature of what they might potentially get from this event.
In response to the criticism, Starry Studio disclosed their aim to make all acquired cosmetics account-wide by August. Players that have duplicated the same cosmetic in multiple characters will be compensated back in form of in-game currency. Unfortunately, technical server problems have led to the delay in the implementation of these changes.
Despite all the controversy, players can get cosmetics in a number of ways without using real money. Cosmetic Tokens can be obtained through duplicate drops from seasonal loot crates that can be purchased with Mitsuko Marks, which can be earned in-game. These tokens can be used by players to buy various cosmetics from the store. Additionally, the game’s battle pass offers cosmetic rewards, with both free and premium tracks available.
The soaring price of some cosmetics, up to $50, has also attracted criticism on possible predatory monetisation strategies.
The developers want cosmetics to be functional for all accounts and refund a player for duplicate purchases, with the latter now postponed.
Cosmetic Tokens are earned when duplicate prizes from treasure boxes are collected or through achievements in the battle pass.
Users can purchase different cosmetic commodities from the game’s official store with the help of these tokens.
