Old School RuneScape (OSRS) will add its first new skill Sailing, a major change in the game's history. After many years of waiting, the dev Jagex has shown more details about this upcoming feature, explaining what players will see.
Sailing allows players to move around the seas of Gielinor, beginning with a tutorial quest called Pandemonium. The quest introduces players to the fundamentals of Sailing by having players sail on a basic raft. The more Sailing experience players gain, the larger ships players are provided with, which players can switch to depending on their needs. These ships offer several options to improve the overall gameplay experience of RuneScape. The game world of RuneScape will grow with new sea regions called Shallow, Open, and Deep Seas. These areas form the base for the Sailing skills, giving players different waters to travel and try out their Sailing skills. Newislands will also appear, adding content that ties in with current skills and giving special Sailing rewards.
The Sailing skill includes multiplayer support with up to 25 ships that can show at the same time, letting players set off on sea journeys together in a friendly, cooperative environment. Though still in the early stages, it will build a shared sailing experience.
In an effort to get the players' feedback and balance their Sailing skills, Jagex will be starting an Alpha test this month. The test will be for one week so that players can try out the new features and provide well-considered opinions. The specific dates for the Alpha are not yet shared.
