Elder Scrolls IV Players are reporting an issue where the save files seem to be vanishing from Oblivion Remastered without warning. Users on Xbox Series X/S and PC are impacted by this, with PS5 players reportedly unaffected.
It may be a combination of the game’s save system not syncing up correctly with Microsoft OneDrive on PC. Saves in Oblivion are stored in your Documents folder, and when OneDrive syncs that file, it can do something that causes saves to actually disappear from the game's load menu, as Oblivion (and many other games) treat the Documents folder as a single file. Some users have found the temporary fix by switching off the OneDrive area for the Documents folder and by making sure that the game’s save area isn't synced.
While there's a temp fix on the PC, the Xbox Series X/S situation, on the other hand, is still murkier. Messages have popped up for players saying that their saves are missing data, presumed to be related to DLC or updates. There have been attempts from some to reinstall the game and/or clear the persistent storage, but these haven't been permanent fixes.
As of writing, the only official fix the players received has been from Bethesda and Virtuos. To avoid potential loss of data, players are advised to manually back up their saves in case things go south and to keep those OneDrive settings monitored.
Some users reported that the OneDrive syncing up with the saved files might've damaged them, resulting in the loss of the saved files.
Yes, a few mention missing saves, possibly due to DLC / update.
While it has left some PC users without an official fix, many have found disabling OneDrive syncing helpful.
There have been no major reports of PS5 players being affected.
