For fans of No Man's Sky, Hello Games released the Relics update, which introduced ancient fossils, new enemies, and new ways to build and explore.
In this update, No Man's Sky players have access to find alien skeleton remains on various planets throughout the game. The fossil remains vary between tiny bits and complete skeletons, and museum-quality display bases allow players to clean and arrange them for exhibition. The latest trading mechanism and packaging solution let players distribute or sell their designed fossil collections throughout the galaxy.
The Space Stations now host a Fossil Collector NPC that allows players to trade unsuitable bones and purchase pieces that lack fossils. The implementation of this fossil economy drives players to study diverse planetary areas for the chance to discover uncommon specimens.
The Relics Expedition stands as a new temporary event that teams players up with the Galactic Palaeontology Society. In this mission, the game requires its players to navigate various biomes while mining different regions. Those who complete the expedition will receive an animated pet skeleton, a Living Stone jetpack, and Basilisk Crown staff.
Excavation isn't without danger. Many of the historical sites use stone golems known as Reanimated Guardians to guard them. The decision to confront combat during an interaction depends on whether the relics have enough value to risk fighting an animated Guardian.
Along with these changes, the update refines the visual presentation of water on planets along with station lights and derelict facility designs. It has also added new upgraded terminals and salvageable loot that keep even previously unevaluable locations from feeling obsolete.
