After waiting for a long time, Nintendo has finally revealed the details about their next console which will be released in 2025. The announcement event featured a new Switch 2 trailer that displayed how the console looks and acts.
The Switch 2 keeps the dual-mode system of its Switch 1 to work as portable hardware and home gaming equipment. This console design update to the Nintendo Switch 2 comes with bigger dimensions and new magnetic attachments for the Joy-Con controllers.
The console comes with a smooth black body that shows the traditional Joy-Con colour variations. The controllers now use magnetic connections which strengthen how they connect to the console. The system now arrives with an additional USB-C port plus a U-shaped kickstand that helps improve its use.
The new Nintendo Switch supports all existing digital and physical games on the original system. Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 supports existing Switch games but warned some titles won't work completely. The announcement of the new hardware came with a sneak preview of a new Mario Kart game where traditional characters switch vehicles in a race. While the new Mario Kart game reveal has thrilled Switch fans, Nintendo, on the other hand, has not shared any information about Metroid Prime 4 yet.
Nintendo plans to release the Switch 2 in 2025.
The Switch 2 system works with every Nintendo Switch physical and digital game but some games might not function properly at launch.
The upgraded Switch 2 comes bigger with better Joy-Con attachment options and includes one more USB-C port alongside its U-shaped kickstand.
Nintendo planned Switch 2 Experience events throughout different cities including Tokyo and Seoul and announced these details on their website.
