It is being rumored that Blizzard is collaborating with Nexon to release Overwatch mobile, which will be a major shift for the series. This collaboration could also breathe life into StarCraft through a new shooter, which will be exciting for the fans of both franchises. In Season 16 of Overwatch 2, we have major changes, including a new hero and a new game mode, alongside extensive improvements to competitive play.
Season 16 will premiere on the 22nd of April, bringing with it Freja, a Danish bounty hunter who uses a crossbow for launching explosive bolts. Her abilities are oriented towards speed and precision, which allows damage-role players to play innovatively. Along with the newest superhero, there is Stadium mode in season 16, which is a 5v5 best-of-seven where players can earn in-game currency that they can use to amp up the Heroes in the game. Having a third-person camera angle and the possibility of tweaking hero skills, Stadium mode raises the game's strategy.
Much like Marvel Rivals, hero bans have been added to competitive play, where everybody can ban a hero from the contest. It is supposed to promote higher variety of strategies and sidestep certain heroes or schemes from becoming dominant with the meta. Also, a new Perks system offers heroes an in-game boost, which increases strategic options.
Such progress, along with the projected mobile Overwatch and rumors of a StarCraft shooter, describes Blizzard’s continuing progress in expanding its franchises and reaching players through many different avenues.
