Modders somehow created a VR mod for Oblivion Remastered mere hours after its launch

Hours after the Oblivion Remastered’s surprise launch, Keyser, Pande4360, and praydog developed a VR mod that lets players play Oblivion in VR. The team created a fully working first-person mod using praydog’s UEVR plugin, adding VR functionality to Unreal Engine 5 games. Some of the earlier videos posted by LunchAndVR on YouTube showed a VR-ready tutorial dungeon where players can interactively cast spells and use swords with their hand movements. The game runs smoothly in indoor environments, even though the project was done quickly. Although the outdoors are far more resource-intensive and VR comfort presets are yet to be polished, the performance is quite impressive for a mod that has developed so rapidly.
The team used a beefy setup comprising PC components such as an RTX 4090 GPU, Intel i9-13900 processor, and 64GB RAM while working with the usage of DLSS in performance mode for optimum performance. In spite of the powerful system, ambient light, shadow quality, and other effects had to be limited to Medium level in order to run smoothly on a Quest 3.
Currently, the mod only supports three degrees of freedom, so you can look around, but full motion controls haven’t been implemented yet. It’s an unbelievably fast proof of concept on what could be done if modders were given more time to polish it up. For Oblivion fans unable to wait their turn to taste Cyrodiil in VR, it’s an exciting start to what is known in modding circles as the obsessive dedication.
