The US government recently banned Marvel Snap alongside TikTok. They banned it because its developer is a subsidiary of ByteDance the company that also owns TikTok. Marvel Snap which Second Dinner developed and Nuverse published as a ByteDance subsidiary faced unexpected removal from app stores resulting in U.S. players losing access to the game. Both the Marvel Snap players and the development team learned about the shutdown without prior notification which surprised many.
Second Dinner revealed a new operational approach to avoid further problems by adopting more internal services while joining forces with a new publishing partner. Since its removal from US app stores, the game has returned to PC platform and should also be available on mobile app stores soon. Affected players will receive rewards within the game environment which contain credits and tokens plus special variants as compensation for downtime.
Government action against firms like ByteDance shows unintended effects for affiliated apps and their users. Developers need to exercise full control over both publishing and operational procedures to protect against similar dangers.
The U.S. government banned Marvel Snap because it belonged to ByteDance which also runs TikTok and faced its ban due to national security risks.
The PC version of Marvel Snap has returned and the mobile app store release should arrive soon as well.
