Lethal Company fans have been waiting for a spark, and they may be getting it. Solo developer Zeekerss has been able to recharge his energy levels after months of slower development on the hit horror game with inspiration directly from REPO.
Last week, in a recent post, Zeekerss even admitted that Welcome To The Dark Place and Lethal Company were draining his life. But, devoting serious time to the crazy co-op horror REPO, the creative mojo came back to them. This is not admiration but is personal. REPO’s structure, from basic strategic maps all the way through to its most hilariously designed enemies, is what makes horror games tense and fun, Zeekers credits. As a result, Lethal Company’s work on the next big patch of Version 70 has begun again.
This revival is interesting because it mimics the stage of horror games themselves. The grind of progress, the sudden moments of joy, and even the frustrations with the overwhelming difficulty mirror many of the experiences that also now feed into their design choices, Zeekers says. Issues like REPO’s brutal difficulty spikes do still get voiced, but it’s generally clear that the overall effect has been good.
Now, fortunately, fans won’t have to wait too long. With fresh ideas, a few badass monster encounters, and their energetic, goat-on-the-loose solo dev recharged, Lethal Company is back in active development.
Zeekers playing REPO inspired him to put out potential big updates to its acclaimed games.
