Retro gaming fans, get ready—GTA Vice City is getting an unofficial Dreamcast port, and it’s shaping up to be something special. A talented group of fan developers, led by SKMP (the same mastermind behind last year’s GTA 3 Dreamcast port), is bringing the neon-soaked chaos of Vice City to Sega’s legendary last console.
While Rockstar has never officially released Grand Theft Auto on the Dreamcast, the console’s dedicated community refuses to let it be forgotten. The port is still in its early stages, with some graphical hiccups in the opening scenes, but the gameplay is already being implemented. That means soon, Dreamcast players could be tearing through Vice City’s streets in a stolen Cheetah while listening to ‘80s hits—all on hardware from 1999!
The Dreamcast has been a playground for passionate developers, with homebrew projects and unofficial ports keeping the console alive. Alongside Vice City, fans have even attempted to bring classics like Super Mario 64 and Counter-Strike to Sega’s final machine.
With GTA 6 set to return to Vice City in 2025, it looks like the city of crime and palm trees is having a moment. Whether you're hyped for Rockstar’s next big thing or just love the nostalgia of Grand Theft Auto, this Dreamcast project is one to watch.
According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is rated Mature. The game is recommended for players 17 years old and older because of its violence, strong language, nudity and drug references.
For those unfamiliar, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nextgen Edition is a free remaster of the original GTA game. This effort ported all of the missions, the entire map, and the content from the original game to the RAGE Engine.
From what we know, Vice City, which is a fictional city based on Miami, will be the new feature in GTA 6. This was revealed in a video by Rockstar Games. The game will be set in the modern world unlike Vice City which was set in 1986.
