Bethesda has released the first update for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, but rather than ironing things out, it has created new problems for PC players.
The hotfix, designed to solve backend problems, has mistakenly disabled essential upscaling options such as DLSS and FSR. Players on Game Pass and Steam claim that these settings are gone from the graphics menu, causing terrible performance dips, particularly noticeable on high-end GPUs. NVIDIA RTX 40 and 50 series users are the ones who suffer the most, with some of them experiencing sudden dips in frame rates down to 30 fps or even less in open-world zones. Bethesda has acknowledged it and is investigating, but has not given a timeline for a fix.
Although faced with difficulties, the modding community still thrives. Despite not being officially supported by Oblivion Remastered, players have already published and shared a number of improvements on sites such as NexusMods. These are performance tweaks as well as visual upgrades and quality of life improvements (Ultimate Engine Tweaks, Difficulty Slider Fixed) mods. Furthermore, the “Ghosts of Tamriel” mod creates a Dark Souls-like feature, where players can send each other messages in-game, thus building a community.
Even though the recent update has brought along a hunt for fresh fixes, the lively modding world ensures replacement of some situations and improvements, making the game appealing for PC players.
It accidentally removed DLSS and FSR upscaling options, and consequently, performance decreased.
Some players use the console commands, or you can change the NVIDIA App settings, but these are just a temporary fix.
Not officially, but the community has created a lot of mods that are available on Nexus Mods.
It is a mod that allows leaving in-game messages for other players, similar to Dark Souls.
