The new Doom: The Dark Ages trailer has just come out, and it’s introducing a wild new aspect of mayhem to the Doom world called the Cosmic Realm. Expect Lovecraftian horror to fill the shoes of classic Doom with huge stone ruins, deformed monsters, and some seriously spooky vibes. The environment here is another world, with giant cyclopean ruins, strange new enemies, and a Cosmic Baron, a tough opponent who can block projectiles, and a revamped Cacodemon with psychic attack powers.
Combat gets a major face-lift with the Reaver Chainshot, a new weapon that combines a heavy strike attack with a rapid strike attack when charged. It’s a special parry mechanic that rewards accuracy in timing, giving it a depth of tactical play in attacks. Weapons that have returned include the Super Shotgun and Plasma Rifle, which have also been modified to have more visceral and dynamic modes of combat.
Doom: The Dark Ages is developed on the new idTech 8 Engine, which will deliver optimized performance on all platforms with a capped 60fps. The game takes the series’ signature intensity to the next level with big battles, heavy, dense environments, and a higher number of opponents. As told by id Software, this installment is to be the most ambitious yet, out of all, while keeping the roots of Doom and guiding the franchise forward by refined mechanics and a broader scope.
A combination of Doom’s hell and Lovecraft’s cosmic horror, complete with giant monsters and spooky ruins.
It hits hard if hitting fast, and also specializes in maximum damage.
Yes, the game will run locked at 60fps.
The devs claim it’s their most ambitious so far.
