Avowed finally dropped on February 18, and despite an initial wave of pre-launch hate, it's actually doing pretty well. But now, there's a new complaint circling the internet: "Skyrim is better."
Yep, some gamers can’t help but compare Avowed to Bethesda’s legendary RPG, arguing that Skyrim looks and plays better. But Avowed fans? They’ve officially had enough. Reddit user xdarkwombatx put together a list of features that Skyrim has but Avowed doesn’t—yet they argue that doesn’t make Avowed a bad game. "Obsidian understood the homework assignment here. While some of those things are nice, you don’t need them to make a good game," they wrote.
And they have a point. Avowed actually started off with a more Skyrim-like approach but later shifted gears to become more like The Outer Worlds. Fans say that’s a good thing—it makes Avowed its own experience rather than a wannabe Skyrim 2.0.
User cnio14 chimed in, saying, "Here’s a crazy idea. You can like KCD2, BG3, Skyrim, and Avowed at the same time." Meanwhile, jf8350143 pointed out that Avowed was never meant to be an immersive sim-style RPG, despite what some players expected.
Regardless of the debates, the game is performing well. Obsidian says they’re happy with the numbers, and with Avowed launching on Game Pass day one, plenty of players are giving it a shot. Maybe it’s time to stop comparing and just enjoy good games for what they are.
Because both are first-person RPGs, but fans argue Avowed is its own thing, not just another Skyrim clone.
Initially, yes, but Obsidian changed direction, making it more like The Outer Worlds instead of a Skyrim-style RPG.
Yes! Obsidian says they’re happy with sales, and Game Pass access means plenty of players are giving it a shot.
