System Era Softworks announced its upcoming game Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions after releasing the interplanetary sandbox experience Astroneer. The game follows a similar space universe but stands independently from the original story as it emphasizes team-based missions throughout intergalactic exploration. The ESS Starseeker acts as players' central space station which serves as their planning upgrade and gearing location before launch. The ESS Starseeker provides players with a home base to plan and upgrade equipment before they explore various stars and planets when managing massive goals.
Players can choose between cooperative expeditions or playing solo in Starseeker, while the game takes a different direction than Astroneer by focusing on defined objectives. The development team highlights that Starseeker acts as an independent project, so Astroneer will still be supported and updated. Missions in the game will need increased coordination between players, while new technology tools will emerge to support group-based missions and tackling planetary-level quests.
During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase, the developers announced that Starseeker will launch for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Starseeker shows a more social progression of the spacefaring sandbox style that the previous game, Astroneer, introduced, yet it continues to celebrate the creative and colorful elements from its predecessor.
The game acts as an independent release within the same universe as Astroneer.
Switching platforms will not affect the continued support for the game version that launched first.
Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
The game features both single-player modes and cooperative gameplay options.
