Vaal Orbs is a high-stakes currency item in Path of Exile 2, which corrupts gears, gems, or any other equipment with unpredictable results. An item can become corrupted, and once this happens, it becomes unmodifiable, finalizing whatever changes have been made. It comes with a gamble of whether an upgrade or a negative effect.
Corruption can reroll affixes, add new modifiers, or even go above a normal socket limit as far as corruption goes with weapons and armor. It could, however, downgrade a specific item to rare or strip it of valuable stats. Other times, the item stays the same except with the "Corrupted" tag.
Skill gems face similar risks. A gem may have its level or quality increase or decrease or be transformed into its Vaal variant by a Vaal Orb. It may also leave it unscathed and simply corrupted.
Jewels can lose implicit modifiers or vice versa. A jewel might also be converted into a different, unique version because of corruption.
Waystones and other items have their own corruption outcomes, which may include major changes to the modifiers or effects of the item.
To protect a Vaal Orb from doing nothing, players can utilize an Omen of Corruption that deems the "No Effect" possibility invalid, leading to more game-changing results.
Vaal Orbs will drop throughout the game, but they'll be rather common in later acts or when doing certain challenges like the Trial of Chaos.
Vaal Orbs are a gamble, and they are used to increase useful items or doom them. Be sure to use them on something expendable or with some backups: a bad run shouldn't ruin your build.
It corrupts an item, subjecting random and irreversible changes.
It can give safe stats or powerful stats mods.
If an opponent casts an Omen of Corruption against you, you will suffer the no-effect result, and it is removed.
Question: they drop throughout the path of the game, especially in later acts and in certain challenges.
