The Best Boot Enchantments for Minecraft
Feather Falling
Ah yes, Feather Falling—aka the MVP of not-splatting-on-the-ground. This enchantment is only for boots, and it’s one of the most essential. It reduces fall damage, which, let’s be honest, is how many of us lose our hardcore worlds. Whether you’re dodging Endermen with pearl teleports or just building something stupidly tall, Feather Falling can quite literally save your life.
Protection
The all-rounder enchantment we all know and love. Protection (up to level IV) reduces most types of incoming damage. While it’s not exclusive to boots, adding it to them can round out your defenses—especially if you’ve already maxed out your helmet or chestplate.
In the grand scheme of the best boot enchantments Minecraft, Protection holds its own. It doesn’t help against everything (like hunger or the kill command), but it’s still one of the safest bets in any biome.
Broad damage resistance. No protection from voids, commands, or Bedrock-exclusive issues.
Depth Strider
Ever tried swimming in Minecraft? It’s like wading through molasses. That’s where Depth Strider comes in. This boot-exclusive enchantment boosts your movement speed underwater—making it perfect for ocean exploration or sea-monster battles.
At level III, you’ll be zipping through the water like a dolphin. It also plays well with the Respiration enchantment (on helmets), giving you the full undersea experience. Just keep in mind it doesn’t work with Frost Walker.
Great for aquatic exploration. Not compatible with Frost Walker, so pick your side.
Thorns
For the passive-aggressive player. Thorns gives enemies a little “ouch” when they hit you. Though more common on chestplates, it works on boots too. At max level, Thorns gives a 15% chance to deal 1–4 damage to attackers, whether they’re hitting you up close or from afar.
Plus, there’s knockback! Annoying zombie on your tail? He might get sent flying. Just note: Thorns wears your boots down faster, costing two durability points per activation.
Passive damage and knockback. Hurts your durability over time.
Soul Speed
Ever been to the Nether and thought, “Why am I moving like a snail?” Blame soul sand and soul soil. But guess what—Soul Speed fixes that. It’s one of the most unique boot enchantments Minecraft has to offer.
With Soul Speed, your movement on soul blocks is boosted significantly. Super handy when navigating the Soul Sand Valley, especially since mobs like skeletons thrive there.
It’s not useful everywhere, but for endgame players exploring the Nether, it’s a must-have.
Perfect for Nether travel. Only works on specific blocks (soul sand/soil).
Mending
Mending might just be the holy grail of enchantments. It’s a Treasure enchantment, which means you can’t get it from the regular Enchanting Table—you’ll need to trade with villagers or fish it up.
This enchantment uses XP orbs to repair your boots. So instead of losing durability every time you fight or fall, your boots self-heal while you earn experience. One XP orb = 2 durability points. That’s a win-win.
Practically immortal boots. Not easy to get unless you’ve got good trades.
Unbreaking
The companion to Mending, Unbreaking boosts your boots’ life by reducing how often they take durability damage. At level III, there’s a 30% chance the hit won’t even register on the durability bar.
While it doesn’t repair like Mending, it keeps your favorite kicks from wearing out too fast. Combine the two, and you’ve got boots that last through endless adventures.
Slows down wear and tear. Doesn’t repair, just reduces damage chances.
Wrapping Up
Boots may not seem like the flashiest part of your Minecraft gear, but when enchanted properly, they’re your first line of defense—and mobility. Whether you're soaring through the skies, diving into oceans, or sprinting across fiery nether terrain, the best boot enchantments Minecraft has to offer will keep your feet fast, safe, and stylish.
Stacking enchantments like Feather Falling, Mending, and Depth Strider gives you a strong edge in exploration and combat. Just avoid the stinkers like Curse of Binding unless you’re trying to prank your buddy.

FAQ
You need 24 pieces of any material (leather, iron, gold, diamond, or netherite) to make a full set—boots included.
You can enchant boots with Protection, Feather Falling, Mending, Unbreaking, Soul Speed, Thorns, and Depth Strider.
Curse of Binding locks boots onto your character until they break or you die. Not ideal if you want to switch gear later—so skip it unless you’re trolling.
