No one likes losing their food, especially when they’ve worked hard for it! This is especially true when you’re sick and already worrying about making it through the winter - as is the case for the Farmer’s Wife in Avowed, who’s asking for help in the Food Theft Quest. Following this thought, today, we’re looking at what the Food Theft Quest entails to help you understand more about the story and the different options to complete this side quest.
First of all, it’s important to start by looking at how to begin the Food Theft Quest in Avowed. Fortunately, you won’t need to go trekking a huge distance to begin the quest, as it can be started by talking to Sielo Piannini at Maxim's Claim, which is located just to the North of the Farmer’s Market. However, Sielo can potentially be found near the Abandoned Farm if you have already finished the Ancient Soil quest, so keep this in mind when starting the mission; nevertheless, even if he’s moved to the Abandoned Farm, he should still be willing to give you the quest.
After speaking with Sielo, you’ll learn that his crops have been stolen by Paradisian Rebels and that he wants to get them back, owing to his wife’s illness. It’s worth noting here that how the quest plays out is largely driven by speech choices, so be sure to keep that in mind as you progress through the quest.
After finding Sielo, you should have started the quest. However, it’s important to remember (as previously mentioned) that the choices you make during speech impact your final results. So, be sure to keep this in mind when planning your quest.
Similarly, the final quality of your game largely depends on your game server, and the stability of your server will depend on whether you choose to use a private or public server to begin with. Luckily, when you create Avowed server privately with ScalaCube, you can enjoy 24/7 uptime and full DDoS protection, plus complete access to your server settings; so, your final game should run much more consistently without lag or crashes due to server downtime.
Once you’ve started talking to Sielo, there’s a chance to get some incredibly useful information from him - however, you’ll have to choose the correct speech checks in order. These are as follows:
After learning more about Sielo’s wife, it’s time to progress with the rest of the quest. To start with, head to the Riverside Cave where the Paradisian Rebels are hiding out. This can be found to the Northwest of Fior mes Iverno, close by to the Godless Ruins. You can use the stone platforms to cross the river. Make sure to balance carefully so you don’t fall into the seemingly cavernous river itself!
After crossing the river and entering the cave, you’ll meet Iglaf. Interestingly, the conversation with Iglaf actually ties in with the main quest, An Untimely End. Thereafter, you’ll be able to progress further into the cave to meet up with Erlinn with whom you can either let the rebels keep the crops or retrieve the stolen crops for Sielo.
Now, it’s time to negotiate with the rebels over the stolen food, and there are several options you can try. Notably, there are three dialog options, each of which unlocks a slightly different approach:
Of course, it’s pretty obvious what the third option will result in, and you’ll immediately be thrust into a battle against Erlinn and all of her people. This is a pretty tricky fight given how many foes you’ll be up against, but it’s a great way to get a lot of exp if you can successfully battle your way out of the cave.
Alternatively, you can try to discuss things with the rebels. If you correctly learned about Sielo’s wife earlier, you can use this information to ask the rebels for medicine. This won’t return the food, but it does give you an alternative solution to the quest.
Another option is to let the rebels keep all of the food. They will naturally be very grateful for this, but Sielo will, of course, be furious. Another option arises if you spared Ygwulf in the main quest earlier. At this point, you can then either demand the rebels return the food as a gesture of good will after sparing Ygwulf. Bear in mind, though, that you’ll need at least six resolve to successfully convince the other members of Erlinn’s group.
Once you’ve made your decision on how to approach the stolen food, you’ll need to return to Sielo to complete the quest. The rewards depend on how you approached the final decision.
The Forager’s Friend Ring is a unique item that can be obtained from Sielo after completing the Food Theft quest in his favor. This item means that food restores 20% more essence and health.
If you’re looking to take on Avowed’s selection of side quests, one that you’ll eventually come across is the Food Theft mission. Fortunately, Food Theft is a relatively simple mission in Avowed making it one of the easier side missions to complete in the game. Plus, you get a unique ring or plenty of coins as a reward, making it a great side quest to think about doing.
