Planning to create a fighter character in Avowed? The fighter character class can offer plenty of great benefits for your game, and one of these will come true right at the start of your new game: you’ll immediately be able to benefit from the very first early game weapons (a luxury not afforded to wizard and ranger classes). However, you won’t want to keep using your starting weapon indefinitely, which begs the question: what are the best early game weapons for a fighter character in Avowed? Well, we’ve outlined everything you’ll need to know to help with this decision!
First of all, before we go any further at looking at the best early game weapons for a fighter in Avowed, we need to start right at the very beginning: just after you’ve learned how to make Avowed server and have set up your new character as a fighter character. Indeed, the background you choose for your starting character will impact your starting weapon, and it’s definitely good to consider this when deciding on the class you want to follow.
Now, for many players, the most natural background choice to start with as a fighter would be the War Hero, which gives a common spear as a starting weapon. However, you can also get plenty of other melee weapons as a starting weapon depending on the background you choose:
Overall, it’s hard to say which is the best as all of these starting weapons differ greatly. For example, the Common Mace is the most powerful but has a far greater stamina cost and a lower critical chance than the other weapons. Meanwhile, the Common Dagger uses less stamina and has the highest critical chance of all starting weapons; however, it deals far lower damage. As such, the best starting weapon will really depend on your personal preferences.
Once you’ve picked the best early game fighter weapon for your character, you’ll next want to think about the best early game options to progress with, and luckily, there is a good selection of powerful melee weapons that you’ll be able to come across in the game. These include the following.
One of the most powerful early game weapons in Avowed has to be the Philosopher’s Riddle, a unique weapon that’s found at the top of Castol’s Folly in Dawnshore, making it one of the earlier weapons you’ll come across. The Philosopher’s Riddle has a physical damage of 135 and a stun of 140, while offering one of two enchantments: Aggressive Debate (15% attack speed boost after a full combo attack) and Poison Lash (+10% poison damage).
Found beneath the Falls just to the north of Paradis, Seven Strivings is a unique Great Axe in Avowed that’s definitely one of the best fighter character axes you can get early on! This unique Great Axe deals 96 physical damage as standard and has a 6% chance to sun, making it a pretty handy weapon for sure. It can also have one of two enchantments: Determined Step, which increases movement speed after killing an enemy, or Vicious Strikes, which increases the critical hit chance by 5%.
Available from Gweneth in Paradis (albeit costing a pretty penny), Fine Great weapons - including the Fine Great Sword, Fine Great Hammer, and the like - can be excellent weapons to add to your arsenal early in the game. Since they are available for purchase, they’re among the easiest weapons to get hold of (provided you have enough gold to afford them, of course!)
If you can’t quite afford the big ticket price of Gweneth’s Fine Great weapons, her common Great Weapons can be an excellent - and far more cost-effective - alternative! These weapons deal a surprising amount of damage for affordable options.
Yes. Fighter characters can use ranged weapons as well as grimoires. However, they will usually do better by using melee weapons.
If you’re happy with a melee build, the Fighter class might be perfect for your next playthrough of Avowed. However, it’s incredibly important to consider here that your starting weapon won’t do the job for very long, so you’ll want to quickly begin your search for the best early game weapons instead.
