Starting a new game is always a major challenge, especially if it’s a brand new game like Avowed where you likely don’t have much past gameplay to fall back on to inform your choices. As such, for those all-important early game adventures, planning your gear is important - and finding the best early game items is one of the best techniques in Avowed to prepare your character for the journey ahead. Luckily, we’ve outlined some of the main things you should be looking out for during your travels; you might just find that these help make your adventure a little smoother in the early game.
Before undertaking the main part of your mission, it’s crucial to ensure you’ve prepared your character accordingly; after all, you’ll be coming up against plenty of foes during your adventure in Avowed, especially if you’ve selected one of the higher difficulty levels. In line with this thought, the following early game items are a must. However, don’t forget that success isn’t tied to your equipment load-out alone, and ensuring your game is properly set up is also crucial. Fortunately, by launching your game on an Avowed dedicated server, you can enjoy 24/7 server uptime, full access to your server’s settings, DDoS protection for enhanced security, and much more. As a result, it’s well worth investing in a private server to start with in order to ensure you’re getting a reliable server.
Without a doubt, one of the most crucial early-game items to find in the game is your starting weapon, which varies depending on your chosen background. Although these starting weapons are basic, they’re still incredibly important for giving your character a means of self-defence against the foes you’ll encounter in the early game. This even applies in the easy Story Time mode, where you’ll still come up against foes - they’ll just be much easier to take on.
In addition to your starting weapon, you’ll also be able to pick up numerous different weapons during your early-game encounters. Many of these can be sold for a good, quick profit; given this, you may well want to consider collecting as many of these basic level weapons as you can to sell to vendors. Moreover, it’s also worth keeping in mind here that you can often purchase the materials needed to make these weapons from the same vendors that you’ll sell to. Crafting guns and selling them back to the same vendors can give a quick profit boost for the early game.
Another highly important piece of gear to grab in the early game is the Enchanted Suolenet, which is a unique amulet that you can pick up easily in the early game by completing Miteno’s Lost Suoles quest in Shantytown. While it doesn’t directly influence your combat ability, it is incredibly useful thanks to its ability to boost the amount of currency you’re able to loot during your travels by a whopping 20%. Needless to say, then, the Enchanted Suolenet lends itself well even into the mid-late game.
In addition to the Enchanted Amulet, there are several pieces of unique equipment that you can actually pick up in the very early game that are well worth looking for. One such example of this is the Arcanist’s Boots, which can be found in the Lighthouse near to where you start the game. These boots are incredibly useful thanks to their ability to increase health restoration by +5% and movement speed by +10%. Since this effect applies to all sources of health, it’s especially handy.
They might seem like pretty basic items, but never overlook just how useful lockpicks can be in Avowed, allowing you to crack into many locked areas and stores. This can open up a huge amount of new items and loot, making them some of the most important early game items (and into the late game, as well).
During the early game, there’s a good chance you’ll take some damage at some point. Given this, it’s paramount that you’ve stocked up on healing items, even in the early game. Fortunately, there are several excellent items that are good for early game healing, including Mariner’s Porridge, Stew, Tear Loaves, and Bleathorn Cheese Wheels. Don’t forget, as well, that you’ll also be able to use multiple healing potions and stamina-boosting drinks to help during your adventures. By focusing on these items and strategies in the early game, you can enhance your chances of survival and set a strong foundation for your character's development throughout Avowed.
Being able to protect yourself against incoming attacks is also incredibly important, and luckily, this is made a little easier thanks to the Unflinching Duty Shield. Since this item is also dropped by one of the very first bosses you’ll encounter in the game, the Dreamthrall Bear, it’s hard to avoid; nevertheless, by providing a 30-point max stamina boost and even allowing you a 10% chance to avoid all damage, it’s definitely one of the most powerful tools in the game.
Generally speaking, the best early game items to get in Avowed include your starting weapon, the Enchanted Suolenet, the Arcanist’s Boots, plenty of lockpicks, healing items, and the Unflinching Duty hield. However, you may be able to get many other good early-game items later in the game.
Your first lockpicks in Avowed will likely be purchased from Lynna at Claviger’s Landing or from the Shantytown merchant. However, if you get lucky, you could also find them as drops from enemies, especially bandits.
Inevitably, starting a new game is always a challenge, especially if you’re not sure what the best early game items to collect might be. Fortunately, today’s guide will hopefully have given you more ideas about the best early game items in Avowed to look out for during your starting adventure. Hopefully, this will help start your game in the right way, too!
