What in Stardew Valley is the Qi Challenge?

Before we go any further, we first need to consider what the Qi Challenge is in Stardew Valley. Simply put, the Qi Challenge is a mission requested by the elusive Mr Qi, a blue-skinned NPC who can be found on both Ginger Island and in the Desert.



Chances are, your first encounter with him will be after entering the Skull Cavern for the first time, when Mr Qi will send a letter in the mail. This letter will challenge you to reach level 25 of the Skull Cavern - and if this is your first time of taking on the Skull Cavern, it’s a much bigger challenge than many people will realise. Still, it’s absolutely attainable, so pick up your favorite weapon and a pickaxe and get to exploring.

The Different Types of Qi Challenges to Complete in Stardew Valley

The main Qi Challenge in Stardew Valley is called Qi’s Challenge, which will be most people’s first interaction with Mr Qi. However, Qi also provides a range of other quests and challenges, as we have covered below.

Qi’s Challenge

We’ve already mentioned the Stardew Valley Qi’s Challenge, but for the sake of clarity, we’ll briefly cover this again here. Qi’s Challenge is the mission you’ll receive from Mr Qi after entering the Skull Cavern in the Desert for the first time. Qi challenges you to reach level 25 - and once you have done so, you’ll receive a 10,000g reward by mail the following day.

The Mysterious Qi

The Mysterios Qi questline in Stardew Valley is a series of quests provided by Mr Qi to the player, based on finding a series of notes. The Mysterious Qi questline is split down into four parts, and once you have completed all four quests, you’ll be able to access the Oasis Casino using the Club Card.

To start Mr Qi’s missions, you’ll need to craft a battery pack and place it in the lock-bock found by the bus stop. Once you have done so, you will come across a note signed by Mr Qi requiring you to leave a rainbow shell in the box.
After leaving the rainbow shell, you’ll move to the next stage of the quest. For some reason, this time, Mr Qi wants you to leave ten beets in Mayor Lewis’ refrigerator. Strange, but if that’s what’s wanted…



The requirements for the third part of Mr Qi’s quest become more involved, and working out this one can be a little tricky. To answer, Mr Qi wants you to place a solar essence in the mouth of the Desert Sand Dragon.

Finally, the fourth note will let you know your scavenger hunt is completed. All that’s left to do is return home to the farm and inspect your log pile. Doing so will reward you with a Club Card, which you can use to gain access to Mr Qi’s Oasis Casino.

Mr Qi’s Special Orders

In addition to the two main Qi challenges, Mr Qi will also provide a selection of special orders for players to complete after collecting 100 Golden Walnuts on Ginger Island. These quests are only small and are similar to the quests obtained from the notice board outside Pierre’s store, but with longer time frames.

• Qi’s Crop Challenge: Ship 500 Qi fruit in 28 days. This challenge is sometimes also called the “Qi’s Fruit Challenge.”
• Qi’s Hungry Challenge: Reach Level 100 in the Skull Cavern without eating or drinking within 7 days
• Qi’s Cuisine: Ship 100,000g of cooked items within 14 days (only items cooked after the start of the quest will count towards this goal, so you can’t stockpile recipes first)
• Qi’s Kindness: Give out fifty loved gifts - excluding Stardrop Tea - in the space of one week.
• Extended Family: Within three days, catch all of the following fish: Ms. Angler, Glacierfish Jr., Son of Crimsonfish, a radioactive carp, and Legend II.
• Danger in the Deep: Reach the bottom of the mines (with the elevator being reset to 0) within 7 days.
• Let’s Play a Game: Score 50,000 points or more in Junimo Cart (endless mode).

• Four Precious Stones: Find four prismatic shards and place them in Qi’s collection box within 28 days. Only shards collected while the quest is still active count towards this.
• Qi’s Prismatic Grange: Find 100 red, orange, yellow, green, purple, and blue items and place them in Qi’s collection box within 14 days. For this quest, pre-collected items do count!
• Skull Cavern Invasion: Reach Level 100 of the Skull Cavern within 7 days - but beware the new and powerful enemies that are spawning in.
