Minecraft: Java Edition - 1.20 (Trails & Tales) introduces Archaeology, allowing players to uncover buried objects using a brush and find Pottery Sherds.
These sherds can be crafted into Decorated Pots. The update also introduces the Sniffer mob, which sniffs the air and occasionally digs for seeds like Torchflowers and Pitcher Plants. Players can also ride Camels, a new mob that spawns in Desert Villages.
But hey, there’s more!
Cherry Grove and Bamboo Wood Sets
The Cherry Grove biome is added, featuring cherry blossom trees and a new Cherry wood set. Pink particles fall from beneath Cherry Leaves, and Bone Meal can be used to grow Pink Petals.
The update also includes the Bamboo wood set, with Bamboo Planks and a unique Bamboo Mosaic variant for crafting stairs and slabs. Bamboo Rafts and Bamboo Chest Rafts have been introduced as well.
Chiseled Bookshelf and Hanging Signs
A new variation of the Bookshelf, the Chiseled Bookshelf, is added, which can store books. Hanging Signs, a more expensive version of regular Signs, can now be attached to various surfaces. Both Signs and Hanging Signs have separate text and color options for each side, providing more customization opportunities.
Calibrated Sculk Sensors and Vibration Resonance
Calibrated Sculk Sensors are introduced, allowing players to filter vibrations based on their frequency level. Blocks of Amethyst can now exhibit Vibration Resonance, re-emitting vibration frequencies received from Sculk Sensors. This allows for the movement of vibration frequencies across long distances.
Playable Mob Sounds and New Music
Players can now place Mob Heads on Note Blocks to trigger ambient sounds. A new Piglin Mob Head is obtainable and can play Piglin sounds. The update also adds new music tracks composed by Aaron Cherof to biomes such as Cherry Groves, Deserts, Jungles, Badlands, and Flower Forests. Additionally, a new music disc called "Relic" by Aaron Cherof can be found in Trail Ruins.
Windows Aarch64/ARM64 Support and Advancements
Minecraft: Java Edition now fully supports Windows devices using Aarch64/ARM64 architecture. New advancements are introduced, including obtaining a Sniffer Egg, crafting trimmed armor, and reading power signals from Chiseled Bookshelves using Comparators.
Dyeing and Step Sounds
Colored Wool, Carpets, and Beds can now be dyed to any color, allowing for more customization. Step sounds have been updated to ensure that walking on blocks always produces a step sound. Wither effect particles and Potion of Slow Falling colors have been adjusted for better distinction.
Miscellaneous Changes
Advancements have been updated with new requirements and changes. The main menu background and the game's logo and Realms logo have been refreshed.
The Sculk Sensor block behaviors have been modified, and vibration frequencies of various actions in the game have been tweaked. There have also been several technical changes, including improved light engine performance and updates to various aspects of the game's mechanics and interfaces.
