Kenichiro Yoshida, Sony chairman and CEO, said that for more than 35 years, our entertainment business has been headquartered in Los Angeles, along with Hiroki Totoki, president and COO, in an agreement statement on X said that they would continue their work with local businesses to explore how Sony can best support LA wildfire relief and recovery efforts in the coming days.
Since starting on January 7 the ongoing crisis remains active and three wildfires continue to destroy parts of the greater Los Angeles area. The BBC reports 24 people dead with 23 still listed as missing since the wildfire disaster. Fire crews are preparing for a critical period because strong winds may worsen the current fire conditions.
Sony isn’t the only big name pitching in. Disney led the charge with a $15 million donation, while Netflix and Comcast contributed $10 million each. The NFL matched Sony with $5 million, while Walmart and Fox added $2.5 million and $1 million, respectively.
