Rust’s April 2025 update is full of improvements and tweaks that polish up the survival game’s famously brutal but addictive gameplay. Patch 2.14 is a bug-fix-focused QoL update that should make item placement smoother and correct scrap costs so items, in general, can be more balanced. Base building has been done to address long-standing issues, such as placing rugs under deployables and hanging banners from further distances.
The crossbow and bow turrets have their loaded arrow types now visibly displayed, which helps in the clarity of combat encounters. Also included in the update is a change to softcore mode, which decreases PvP bullet damage by 25% and adds deployable debris that keeps half its loot when destroyed to promote more strategic raids.
Rust player base continues to thrive as the Steam concurrent players reach over 260,000 this month, an indication that it’s very much alive after 11 years. Updates to the game are consistent with what we’ve had recently. The game is constantly updated, such as the recent Primitive Update and its siege weapons and shields. With the teased Jungle Update, the inclusion of crocodiles and blowpipes shows Facepunch Studios’ unrelenting nature and desire to evolve the content within the game and look to help establish Rust as the pinnacle of the survival genre.
The update bugs and fixes adjust scrap costs and item placement and refine softcore mode mechanics.
The game’s popularity has clearly endured, and it has surged past 260,000.
The Primitive Update added siege weapons and shields, and a new game mode was added.
The Jungle Update will feature new biomes, predators, and primitive weapons such as blowpipes.
