The long-awaited sequel to Grinding Gear Games’ flagship ARPG, Path of Exile 2, hits a rough patch. Fan reaction took a nosedive after the latest update.

Path of Exile 2’s reviews are sitting at Mostly Negative on Steam, as players are currently frustrated that the Dawn of the Hunt patch has ruined their gaming experience. The update to the game has made it even tougher, according to many long-time fans, as they say the update has made it unnecessarily brutal. New league mechanics feel punishing and not rewarding; even hardcore veterans are discovering the difficulty spikes to be overwhelming. Enemy scaling, unfair boss fights, and grindy progression have been heavily complained about all across social media and community forums.

The backlash caught on so much that Grinding Gear Games acknowledged very soon that the community was not happy. As a result, the studio said it would introduce emergency balance changes on April 11. The revisions here are intended to smooth out the most painful elements of Dawn of the Hunt, specifically making enemies a bit easier and loot more adequately compensating for their efforts. GGG is known for listening to its community, but it is yet to be seen if this patch can reverse the tide.
