Major publishers are now looking to adjust their release dates in response to the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6). The future release of Rockstar Games' GTA 6 has other game developers waiting sceptically while avoiding risky competition before the giant GTA 6 launch in the fall of 2025.
Multiple sources from inside the gaming industry explained that certain publishers prefer to stay cautious instead of choosing specific release dates as they want to observe GTA 6's actual release schedule and possible release delays. The chosen approach focuses on waiting patiently to avoid being swamped by the anticipated market domination of GTA 6.
The fear is justified cause GTA 5 surpassed every record when it reached 200 million units sold across its nine-year release period starting in 2013. Experts project that GTA 6 will reach the highest position among all games in terms of sales volume.
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, has avoided discussing marketing plans and instead focuses its game promotion activities close to the game's scheduled release date. CEO Strauss Zelnick demonstrates awareness of the exceptional hype surrounding GTA 6 by recommending an appropriate pace to maintain interest in the game.
The industry-wide hesitancy shows how much impact the upcoming GTA 6 will create, thus requiring publishers to be extra cautious about their future releases.
The delay exists to prevent battling against the expected preference of GTA 6 when it launches in the fall of 2025.
Rockstar Entertainment has officially declared that GTA 6 will arrive during the fall of 2025 although release date confirmations might face potential delays.
External sources report that GTA 5 has achieved more than 200 million sales figures from 2013 onwards.
The company plans to maintain low marketing efforts before the release date in order to build up anticipation.
