Sports Interactive and Sega declared the cancellation of Football Manager 25 which creates an anomaly in the historic Football Manager series. The game developers initially planned to release Football Manager 25 in November 2024 but delays eventually forced them to scrap the project.
According to the devs, the latest cancelled release lacked quality standards which pushed them to cancel the development of Football Manager 25. An official announcement included their apology to fans along with information about how delayed development had pushed the release date too far from the active football season which led to cancellation being the best solution.
The cancelled Football Manager 25 release would have brought two major upgrades through its transition to the Unity engine and the extended women's football mode. The development journey was hindered by ambitious updates that caused production problems surpassing the release deadline.
Active subscribers of Football Manager 24 through Xbox Game Pass and pre-order customers will receive automatic refunds as developers explore continued service availability for the game through subscription platforms. The dev team decided to allow fans to continue their managerial journeys through subscription services following the cancellation.
Quality standards for the game were not met so pushing the release further would place it well outside the football season period.
A transition to the Unity engine and the inclusion of women’s football.
The automatic refund process will handle payments for every previously purchased pre-order.
