Bad news, heroes—Fable is running late. Microsoft has officially pushed back the Playground Games-developed reboot to 2026, leaving fans to twiddle their thumbs a little longer before stepping into Albion once again.
Originally slated for 2025, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan assured fans that the delay is for the best, promising that Playground’s version of Albion will be the most beautifully realized yet.
To soften the blow, Microsoft released new pre-alpha footage showing off the game’s stunning world. Players got a glimpse of combat, spell-casting, and, in true Fable fashion, some good old-fashioned chicken-kicking by this Microsoft update. There’s even a scene where the protagonist cooks sausages—because nothing screams adventure like a hearty breakfast before battling a werewolf.
Weapon-wise, the footage confirmed a mix of small and big swords, a Monster Hunter-style hammer, and fiery spellcasting. The humor and charm that defined the series seem intact, with the latest trailer narrated by Peep Show’s Matt King, who plays a character questioning the protagonist’s every move.
This will be the first mainline Fable game since 2010’s Fable 3. That’s a 16-year gap till 2026! And with The Elder Scrolls 6 still looming in the distance, fans will have to wait and see which long-anticipated RPG hits first. So, will the delay be worth it? Hopefully, by 2026, Albion will be more magical than ever. Until then, hold on to your chickens.
Microsoft wants Playground Games to perfect Albion’s world, gameplay, and humor—so expect a polished, immersive experience in 2026.
Pre-alpha footage showed spellcasting, big swords, chicken-kicking, and sausage-cooking—because nothing fuels adventure like breakfast and questionable life choices.
If Playground Games delivers gorgeous visuals, witty humor, and classic Fable chaos, then yes—2026 might just be legendary.
