With just two months to go before Assassin’s Creed Shadows finally lands, Ubisoft has already lifted the curtain on its first expansion. Titled Claws of Awaji, this Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC promises over 10 hours of extra content, complete with a brand-new region, fresh enemies, and an exciting new weapon for Naoe.
Ubisoft has faced quite a difficult pre-launch period for the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was initially planned for release in March 2015 but was delayed several times and settled on March 20, 2025. Considering recent efforts of the publisher (cough Star Wars Outlaws cough), it is seen that Ubisoft is eager to make this series work. Luckily, hands-on previews have been good, and now that here is the first Assassin’s Creed DLC, the anticipation is on.
Wondering what’s in Claws of Awaji? Players will travel to Awaji and face off against a brutal new faction called the Sanzoku Ippa, notorious for their deadly ambushes. Ubisoft is also introducing the Bō staff, a fresh weapon type for Naoe to master. If you pre-order any edition of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll get Claws of Awaji for free, but don’t worry—it’ll be available for purchase later if you miss out. Ubisoft Bordeaux (Assassin’s Creed Mirage) is leading development on this expansion, allowing Ubisoft Quebec to focus on polishing the main game. With Ubisoft betting big on Shadows after recent misfires, all eyes are on this next chapter in the legendary franchise.
