Ubisoft is reportedly developing a remake of the acclaimed 2013 title, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Development of the project has progressed significantly according to insider Tom Henderson which aims for an initial release in November 2025. However, project delays on Assassin's Creed Shadows might push the development of the Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag remake into the 2026 timeframe.
The original Black Flag receives admiration due to its intriguing story in a pirate setting and its broad open-world environment. Game technology enthusiasts and fans eagerly await updates enabling Black Flag to reach todays gaming standards. Analysts say that the revised version will run on Enhanced Anvil Engine technology from Ubisoft which debuted in top games including Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Mirage.
According to reports, Ubisoft Singapore manages development because of its previous naval development work for Black Flag and Skull and Bones. The original Black Flag studio team brings refined sailing experience to this remake project.
A lead artist on LinkedIn showed team transfers to an Unannounced Project in September 2023 after Ubisoft kept remake plans hidden from the public.
The expected November 2025 release for the remake will likely get delayed to 2026 because of Ubisoft's internal schedule changes.
The development of the remake is reportedly led by Ubisoft Singapore according to reports.
Ubisoft's enhanced Anvil Engine will power the remake with its capability standing proven in recent games including Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Mirage.
So far Ubisoft has yet to release any formal statements about the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake. Multiple reports along with insider sources indicate that work on the project has started.
