Electronic Arts (EA) just ended the live services of one of their games Rory Mcllroy PGA Tour on January 16, 2025. The ending of online service availability will disable multiplayer features and several game achievements. In 2015, EA established significant changes for its golf series on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One by using the Frostbite 3 engine following its departure from Tiger Woods. Reviewers gave mixed feedback due to both the narrow course selection and few features when the game launched.
The closure forms part of Electronic Arts' business approach to retire online service offerings from several games in the first half of 2025. Notable closures include The Simpsons: Tapped Out ceased operations on January 24 followed by seven additional mobile platform games shutting down on January 29. The fanbase reacted with discontent toward these closures through which multiple players started petitions in response to the service shutdowns.
The online features of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will go offline and offline modes remain playable through single-player sessions and local multiplayer competitions. The decision shows how tough it is to maintain online gaming networks which eventually changes players' extended gaming experiences.
The last operational date for online services will be January 16, 2025.
The offline play options which include both single-player mode and local multiplayer functions will stay operational.
EA probably points to diminishing player statistics and organizational moves towards fresh releases as explanations.
Several mobile games including The Simpsons: Tapped Out will terminate all services in January 2025.
