One of the most addicting things about Monster Hunter Wilds is the constant grind for materials. From hunting down rare bones to elemental sacs, or even glowing monster bits, every item plays a key role in upgrading your gear. And if you’ve been chasing electric-themed weapons or armor lately, there’s a good chance you’ve run into the crafting bottleneck known as the Thunder Sac. If you’re wondering where to find a Thunder Sac in Monster Hunter Wilds, why you need it, or why it never seems to drop when you need it most, we’ve got your back.

The Thunder Sac is one of those monster materials that doesn’t just drop from any old creature. It’s tied to monsters with lightning or thunder-based abilities, and in Monster Hunter Wilds, that means you’ll be going after a real beast: the Guardian Fulgur Anjanath.
This isn’t the same fire-breathing brute you might remember from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. In Wilds, this version is way more dangerous and is part of a new classification known as Constructs. With glowing thunder powers and an attitude to match, this monster is your one-stop shop for Thunder Sacs. But don’t get your hopes up too high just yet because this isn’t a guaranteed drop.
You’ll be able to hunt Guardian Fulgur Anjanath in the Ruins of Wyveria, but only after reaching High Rank, specifically HR 8. That means you’ll need to work your way through a fair portion of the main story before this bad boy even becomes available.
Once unlocked, you can usually find it roaming between Zones 9–14. Like other monsters in Wilds, it moves around freely in the open world. If you spot it and aren’t ready to fight, you can mark it and spend Guild Points to add it to your Investigations list for later. Super handy.
You’ll also see it featured in some optional hunts and a high-rank quest called “Thundering Flowers”, which is great for farming.

Now for the big question: how do you actually get a Thunder Sac from Guardian Fulgur Anjanath? Here’s the trick, it’s only available as a quest reward. Not from carving. Not from broken parts. Not even from destroying wounds during the hunt. That means you’ll need to finish the entire quest and hope RNG is on your side when the reward screen pops up.
When you finally get one, you’ll spot it by its yellow pouch icon, which looks a lot like a Lifepowder in your item box. The moment you see it in your rewards list, go ahead and let out a little victory roar. You’ve earned it.

Thunder Sacs are useful if you’re crafting any of the Guardian Fulgur Anjanath’s weapons or armor. These gear pieces usually come with built-in thunder or paralysis resistance (or offense), so they’re great if you’re building for elemental matchups.
You’ll often need more than one Thunder Sac per item, especially for crafting higher-tier versions or augmenting gear later on. So even after you get your first one, don’t be surprised if you find yourself needing two or three more before your build is complete.
Whether you’re farming Thunder Sacs or just chilling with your hunting party, having a smooth multiplayer experience is key. If you’re planning on running a Monster Hunter Wilds co-op server, ScalaCube is a great choice for hosting.
They offer fast, customizable servers with great uptime and support, which is ideal if you want a lag-free experience while syncing up on long farming sessions. Their setup is beginner-friendly, and you can even tweak server settings if you’re playing with custom quest mods or balancing tweaks in the future.
Nope. Thunder Sacs only drop as quest rewards, not from carving, breaking parts, or wound destruction. Make sure you complete the quest to have a shot at it.
The “Thundering Flowers” quest is one of the best since it directly features Guardian Fulgur Anjanath. Using a Lucky Voucher during this hunt will increase your odds significantly.
Yes! When you find it roaming in the wild, interact with its icon and spend Guild Points to add it to your Investigations. This lets you re-hunt it without needing to find it again in the overworld.
Yes. They’re also required for crafting specific thunder-element weapons, particularly those tied to the Guardian Fulgur Anjanath gear line. Greatswords, Long Swords, and even some ranged options need them.
The Thunder Sac may not be the rarest item in Monster Hunter Wilds, but it can definitely be one of the most annoying to farm, especially if you didn’t realize it’s quest-only. Guardian Fulgur Anjanath is no pushover either, and if you’re farming these sacs regularly, you’re going to want to prep for a few long, thunder-filled fights. Make sure to bring Lucky Vouchers, avoid fainting, and keep an eye out for its Investigations so you can farm more efficiently. Once you’ve collected enough Thunder Sacs, you’ll be able to unlock some awesome thunder-themed gear that’ll carry you through tougher elemental matchups down the road.
