Hollow Knight Silksong Great Conchflies Boss Guide
Exploring the Blasted Steps of Hollow Knight: Silksong is not for the faint of heart. This biome takes the lethal heat of moving sands and combines it with merciless platforming obstacles and a relentless gusting wind that perpetually keeps you off-path. And like almost every area in Pharloom, the landscape itself isn't even the greatest danger; monsters are charging at you from all directions, all building up to the fight against the terror-inducing Great Conchflies boss. At first glance, this battle appears intimidating. You are not battling a single giant bug but two at the same time. The screen is crowded with action, with dust trails and projectiles, and panicking is understandable when you have twice the mess. But as scary as they appear, the Silksong Great Conchflies are surprisingly easy to deal with once you are accustomed to their simple attack patterns.
This guide will take you through where you can locate the Great Conchflies, how to prepare, the particular strategy you have to employ to win, and the Great Conchflies' reward that you'll acquire once the fight is over.
Where to Find the Great Conchflies

Make Your Own game Server
The Silksong Great Conchflies region is deep within the Blasted Steps, a desert terrain with hostile wind currents and platforming gauntlets. To even reach this area, you'll need three specific abilities: Cling Grip – for wall climbing and hanging for careful platforming. Drifter's Cloak – so that you may glide over extensive wind-churned canyons. Swift Step – the dash ability, used for both getting around and staying alive. If they are not unlocked yet, you cannot advance along the Blasted Steps. Players typically encounter the door too soon and are stuck, so it is likely wise to make sure your kit is right before going through. The point of entry itself is via the left exit of Shellwood, which requires the Cling Grip. When you enter Blasted Steps, you immediately get tested with sandworms, flying enemies, and constant pressure from the desert winds. Head left, fighting (or avoiding) the hostile wildlife while moving on. When you reach the vertical split and can go either down or up, head up. There are a couple of more enemies there; watch out for bell-ringers, as their knockback will move you into spikes or harm. Glide more right with the wind, kill or avoid four more enemies, and continue to the next chamber.
In this new region, you can buy the map of the region from Shakra. It's advisable to do it before the boss fight, not only for orientation purposes but also for flagging important landmarks. Having gotten the map, go back a bit and utilize the Cling Grip to climb the right-hand wall. A series of ledges leads you towards another entrance that has dangerous spider-like creatures. Patientness is the name of the game here; rushing usually means undeserved damage. Finally, after getting through the gauntlet, you will land on hard ground. Keep moving on the left-hand path until you arrive at the Great Conchflies' lair. As soon as you get in, the battle against the great Conchflies boss begins.
How to Beat the Great Conchflies
Despite the over-the-top setup and the ominous appearance of two enormous insect bosses, this battle is one of the easiest battles in Silksong after you know the rhythm. The most important thing here is patience and poise. The Great Conchflies only have two main moves:
Bursting from Walls and Floors
The most common attack involves the bosses diving in and out of the arena walls or ground. Before they appear, you’ll see dust trails signaling where they’re about to burst out. Position yourself carefully just beyond the dust, then prepare to strike as soon as they emerge. When they burst into the arena, they immobilize for an instant, drilling or thrashing in place. This is your chance: rush in, hit them two or three times, and get out before they disappear again. To minimize risk, wait halfway across the arena between attacks. From here, you can dash or jump to either side of where a Spitting Bouncing Spike is just about to appear.
Spitting Bouncing Spikes

The second attack is easier to read. One Conchfly will come out and puke a small spiked projectile. It will bounce three times, then disappear. The important thing here is to dash directly underneath the Conchfly, where you can't be hit by the projectile, and punish with overheads. If you can bait and punish this attack consistently, you'll shatter their combined health bar quickly. Strategy Tips
- Stay Calm with Two Bosses: The Conchflies aren’t directly targeting Hornet. They move on semi-random patterns, which means you’ll often have clear opportunities to focus on one without worrying about the other. Panic usually leads to mistimed dashes, so breathe, react, and pick your moments.
- Shared Health Pool: Both bosses share a health bar. Once they have emptied their combined HP, only one will die while the other escapes. This means you don't need to bother about splitting damage, just keep on attacking whichever is available.
- Positioning is Everything: The mid area of the arena is the safest spot. It is easy to dash to either side for punishes there and keep surprise bursts from the floor or walls at bay.
- Don't Overcommit: You have two or three hits per punish window. Be greedy and you will end up taking unnecessary damage. Keep your combos short and reset.
The Great Conchflies Reward

Unlike a few of the other boss fights in Hollow Knight Silksong, the big Conchfly reward will not fall in the immediate arena. Rather, victory opens up the route ahead, which leads you further into the Blasted Steps. Defeating them unlocks the Pinstress, a rewarding NPC perched just outside the boss door. She rewards you with the Needle Strike skill, a powerful new attack that lets Hornet build up a charge and smash in for massive damage. Later, holding down the attack button lets you release charged blows that punch through defenses and deal huge damage. It's a climactic moment for Hornet's history and is worth the trouble of clearing the arena.
Closing Thoughts
The Silksong Great Conchflies may look intimidating, but they’re more of a psychological challenge than a mechanical one. Two massive insects crashing through the floor and walls make for a chaotic spectacle, but their predictable moveset keeps the fight fair. By recognizing dust trails, punishing spit attacks, and keeping calm under pressure, you’ll find the encounter is far easier than it first appears. And the awesome Conchflies reward, unsealing the Needle Strike, makes the trouble worth it. Not only does it make your attack choices stronger, but it also leads the way to new battles down the road in Pharloom. When compared to trickier mid-game bosses, the Great Conchflies serve as a refreshing reminder: sometimes the scariest battles in Silksong are more about nerves than difficulty. With patience and precision, you’ll send one of the Conchflies crashing down and watch the other retreat, leaving Hornet stronger and more prepared for the dangers still ahead.
