Hornet learns about the Wishwell system early in Hollow Knight Silksong, a new quest system that combines exploration, combat, and NPC interaction differently from the questlines and charms of the first. One of the first wishes you can complete is Garb of the Pilgrims, and while it's not a highly difficult quest, it's one of the most applicable for teaching you how quests evolve over the course of Pharloom. It also provides a good reward that you can utilize to get some powerful early-game gear.
If you're new and unsure how to complete the Hollow Knight Silksong Garb of the Pilgrims quest, don't worry, this guide is here to walk you through each step. We will walk you through how to unlock the wish, the most effective method of farming the pilgrim shawls required, and the actual reward that you get for submitting it.
Starting the Garb of the Pilgrims' Wish

You cannot begin the Silksong Pilgrims' Garb quest until you have defeated and freed the Bell Beast. This fight introduces you to one of the game's most valuable systems: quick travel. After the beast is subdued, Hornet can ride it between points that are set in the world. Here in the game, there are only two destinations that become available for travel, and they are The Marrow, where you fight the Bell Beast, and Bone Bottom, the hub-like underground colony where you will find several important NPCs.
After the fight, ride the Bell Beast back to Bone Bottom. When you arrive, notice something new on the surface: Flick the Fixer has finished constructing his Wishwell. Speak with it, and you can see a menu of quests available to Hornet. These wishes will vary in difficulty, reward, and size, but at the beginning of the game, only a handful will be accessible.
Tab over to Garb of the Pilgrims Silksong and activate it. The Wishwell explains the quest plainly: Hornet must collect twelve pilgrim shawls, the distinctive clothing worn by the zombie-like enemies you’ve likely already encountered. Look over the "Bone Bottom Repairs" wish also before you leave. This side quest isn't required and will set you back 200 shell shards, and if you were diligent about farming, you should already have it in your inventory. While not necessarily related to the Garb of the Pilgrims quest, it's a nice way to earn two early rewards for the price of one.
Hunting Pilgrim Shawls

Once the quest is active, your task is easy: hunt down and kill pilgrim enemies to gain shawls. These horrible, hooded bugs appear more and more after the wish is made, and their drops are directly linked to the quest. To begin farming, ride the Bell Beast to The Marrow and exit the fast travel room to the left. Continue left until you reach Mosshome, which is a green but dangerous area that's guarded by pilgrims. It's the best place to farm for shawls since you'll only have the same four pilgrim enemies.
All of these critters have slightly different attack patterns. The melee pilgrims walk slowly and swing with basic swings, but two of the four that are seen in Mosshome are ranged versions that spit green toxic orbs. These orbs are the most threatening part of this farm, because they unpredictably curve and will kill you when you're committed to an attack. Try to get them to shoot at you first before charging up to quickly hit them, or use your clawline mobility to glide over them. Once defeated, the corpse of every pilgrim will radiate light, and a message to "Take" will appear. You are rewarded by going through the interaction with a single pilgrim shawl. Drop rate is fixed at 100% until you collect all twelve, so RNG does not matter. Simply go ahead and take every shawl and move on.
Optimized Farming Loop Killing four pilgrims only gets you four shawls, but that won't be enough. Mathematically, however, it's simple: you must run into them three times to hit the target of twelve shawls. Fortunately, the respawn and bench mechanics reduce the agony. After clearing the pilgrims, head right out of Mosshome and drop down the glowing pit that leads to a nearby bench. Resting here will respawn all enemies in the area. Stand up, retrace your steps, and kill the same four pilgrims again. Repeat this loop once more, and you’ll have the full set of twelve shawls in your inventory. The efficiency of this loop can’t be overstated. The enemies are close to both a bench and the Bell Beast fast travel point, making it the fastest and safest farm. While other pilgrims scattered throughout Pharloom will drop shawls too, none are as conveniently placed as these four. Once you’ve reached twelve, the drops will stop, signaling that the quest objective has been met.
Turning in the Shawls With twelve shawls secured, head back to Bone Bottom using the Bell Beast. Return to the surface, interact with the Wishwell again, and you’ll see a new prompt to “Turn In” the quest items. Doing so completes Garb of the Pilgrims' Silksong and unlocks your reward. Rewards for Garb of the Pilgrims The reward for completing the quest is a Rosary Necklace that contains 120 rosaries. These are traded as a currency and can be spent to purchase items from merchants all over Pharloom. Picking this up early in the game is a huge payday, and it introduces you to new items, upgrades, and tools much sooner than if you were doing shard solo farming. You have several options as to what you can do next. You can go to Pebb's store, located to the left of the Wishwell, and spend the rosaries immediately. She keeps a rotating stock of useful charms, gadgets, and consumables. Alternatively, you can go to Shakra and spend on maps or map-marking equipment, which can greatly aid in exploration. If none of those in the shops excite you, there is no need to worry; the Rosary Necklace can be safely kept. As long as you take care of it, you will not lose the rosaries inside it even if you die.

Why the Quest Matters
Though Hollow Knight Silksong Garb of the Pilgrims is not an overly complex task, it does introduce you to several systems that you will be using throughout the game. It teaches you how to keep tabs on quest progress through the Wishwell, how certain enemies relate to wish objectives, and how rewards can reward you with early benefits for your resources. It also focuses on the importance of proficient farming. Instead of scrambling the world over to find twelve pilgrims, the quest is designed so that you can find one concentrated farming spot and do it in a row until you're finished. This same idea transfers to subsequent quests, most of which revolve around hunting certain baddies or gathering uncommon drops.
Most importantly, Silksong Garb of the Pilgrims offers a feeling of accomplishment early in the game. By completing it, you reaffirm the game's rhythm: travel, fight, return, and reward. It lays the foundation for the much larger ambitions you'll discover later in Pharloom, where reward and risk escalate exponentially.
Closing Thoughts If you are looking for a simple yet satisfying early-game quest, Garb of the Pilgrims' Silksong is an excellent place to start. It's short, it's easy, and it gives you a taste of how quests are woven into exploration and combat in Hollow Knight Silksong. With efficient farming in Mosshome, timely submission of your shawls, and the wise use of your rosaries, you'll come out stronger and better equipped to tackle the adventures that await you. It's not the most glamorous quest in Pharloom, but it's one that any gamer would find worth doing. And once you've reflected after whuppin' some of the game's sadistic later bosses, you'll remember that it all started with a few shawls and a simple wish at the Bone Bottom Wishwell.
