How to Build a Base in Enshrouded
The aim of playing Enshrouded is survival, which makes buildings a base necessary. The game allows players to experience a world filled with deadly enemies and intimidating bosses. Your base will serve as shelter and where you can strategise your next move in the game, whether it is farming for resources or completing a quest.
You will need a strong base because the world of Embervale is filled with dangerous bosses and zombies that cause all sorts of problems for players. Hence, this guide will show how to build a strong base in Enshrouded.
What You Need to Build a Base in Enshrouded
When you start playing Enshrouded, one of your early achievements is selecting your first base location in the game. This is done by placing your Flame Altar in an open area. The vast area of land where you place the altar in the middle will become the first buildable section. You can have more than one stone altar, which means you can get many home bases in the game. You can also upgrade your Flame Altar by adding more sparks later on in the game.
However, you can only build within the restricted section of your base, and you are not allowed to build on the open fields. To start building your base, you may want to craft some items. These objects and their requirements include;
- Construction Hammer (a piece of stone)
- Workbench (3x strings, and 8x wood logs)
- Plant Fiber Roof Block (5x plant fiber)
- Rough Stone Block (2x stone)
- Rough Wood Block (2x wood)
- An Axe (4x twigs, 1x stone, and 1x string)
- Pickaxe (4x twigs, 1x stone, and 1x string)
- Blacksmith
Once you've crafted these items, rescue a blacksmith, as the NPC provides more crafting options and blueprints. You can find one near the Braelyn Bridge.
Building a Base in Enshrouded
The first item you want to construct when building your base is the Construction hammer. You can craft this item with a single stone in your inventory. To start, you must construct and place down your first workbench because this tool allows you to unlock a few basic building items.
After getting the Construction Hammer, then you must have unlocked the ability to enter into Construction Mode. In this mode, your character can easily put basic buildings together and create roofs, premade floors and wall shapes that can combine with an existing structure – from the building materials in your inventory. To enter the Construction Mode, simply click on the tab key on your keyboard.
While still in your base, you can set up blocks freehand without being in your Construction Mode. This option is for players who already have a structure in mind or have a vision of how they want their base to look. While this is the preferred choice for players due to convenience and comfortability, it actually takes more time due to its complicated steps. If you're repairing an existing building, add fancy windows and doors to any open segment.
Construct these items at the workbench before placing them in their appropriate spot at the building. After following the above, you must already have at least four walls, a door and a roof to cover. This is a basic structure and with it, you will benefit from its sheltered privileges, which is an increased rate of gaining any rested boosts. As time flies in the game, you can learn how to build more advanced structures around your Flame Altars.
Tips and Tricks for Selecting a Base in Enshrouded
This role-playing game has several locations you can use as a refuge, including Pikemead’s Reach, Fort Kelvin and others. The area where you decide to place your base is important in Enshrouded, as this area will help you collect the resources and upgrade your equipment. As such, select an area that connects all the dots in your search for survival in the game.
Don't Place Your Base Near the Ancient Spires
You unlock these Ancient Spires after completing several main campaign quests that require you to increase the flame level of your Flame Altar. However since these are fast travel points on your map, your base shouldn't be near them because it will reduce the area you can cover in the game. Enshrouded has five Ancient Spires on the Embervale. These Spires include;
- Springlands
- Revelwood
- Low Meadows
- Nomad Highlands
- Kindlewastes
The Springlands, Revelwood and Low Meadows Ancient Spires are on the western section of the map, which means they are close to each other. On the other hand the Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes are located at the Eastern part of the map. We recommend locating your base at the gap between the Eastern and Western Ancient Spires to have a quicker way of traversing across different locations.
Set Up Your Base Close to Mines
Salt, Copper, and iron are essential resources that can be found in mines. In the game, these resources are necessary for crafting and upgrading your tools, base, and weapons. The interesting thing is that the resources are found in large quantities, so they will help you survive for long periods in the game.
Now, since most of the mines are close to the Ancient Spires, you can set up your main base as we advised above and then locate your other bases close to the mines. However, the game will ask you to set up a base on the low grounds towards the area with
the Cinder Vault fast travel point. You need to choose wisely and ensure they are close to the mines.
