Enshrouded Flame Altar Upgrade
An essential part of thriving in Embervale is setting up and upgrading your Flame Altars. This is because the world is overwhelmed by magical Shrouds that have mutated monsters, so players will always run back to their base after hunting for resources or conquering quests. This guide will teach you how to upgrade your Flame Altars – the necessary materials, their importance, and the methods for upgrading them.
How Flame Altars Works
In Enshrouded Flames gives characters their abilities, hence why they are called Flameborn. Unlike the ancients, who made the Embervale what it is, your aim is to survive the shroud and protect the flame. Players can't build on Embervale without setting up their Flame Altars because it is the centerpiece of their base. In addition, altars also serve as fast travel points, which is one of the reasons you should consider placing them in good locations.
After collecting 5 stones, which can be acquired near their starting area or by mining rocks with a pickaxe, players can begin crafting their Flame Altars. They can set up these altars by adding them to their hotbar menu before clicking on the hotbar and then placing it on the ground. However, it is important to note that Flame Altars cannot be on the Shroud, which means gamers will have to find a plain field with no obstacles.
Also, once you've set up your altar, you cannot move it; the only option you have is to extinguish the flame. Players who want to move their Flame Altars from one location to another build new Flame Altars and destroy the first one to ensure coverage. When players Interact with any of the Flame Altars, they are open to four options;
- Upgrade Altar
- Strengthen the Flame
- Reset skills
- Extinguish Flame
We will discuss the first two options in the later part of this series. Reset Skills allow you to spend resources to upgrade your skills, while Extinguish Flame destroys the Flame Altar and makes space to build in another location.

Upgrading the Flame Altar
As you set up Flame Altars in the Enshrouded, it is necessary to outline and plan them. This entails choosing the altars you would like to upgrade to their full capacity and the ones that would remain small. Upgrading your altars increases the size of the area where you can build. It is similar to strengthening in that you require some materials to carry out the process.
However, the materials needed are not as rare as the ones for strengthening, which means they are cheaper than and only expand your buildable section. In the game, we have three upgrades that will allow you to build a bigger building. These upgrades include;
- 40x40x40
- 80x80x80
- 120x120x120
All Flame Altar carries the first option as default, so you will notice that your first altar has this size. On the second upgrade, the size of your buildable section will increase to 80x80x80. The cost of the upgrade is one Shroud Core. The third upgrade cost 5 Shroud Cores and increased the size to 120x120x120.
