Healing in Avowed differs from other games in many different ways, and one of the most significant changes here lies in the fact that healing is generally slower in the middle of combat than outside of it.
Furthermore, many healing items in Avowed are based not on a set number of hit points but instead on a percentage of your maximum health, which can make the early game a little harder but the late game easier with healing.
In addition to having a range of different healing items in the game, it’s also possible to take certain skills and abilities that can help with health restoration. For example, the Built to Destroy ability allows you to recover both health and essence when destroying items. Altogether, this gives plenty of opportunities for an individual to heal after taking damage - but be sure to focus on healing up your character as soon as combat is over, just in case you get jumped by a surprise enemy during your adventure!
There are multiple different ways to restore your character’s health in Avowed, and keeping this in mind is important when planning your game. Nevertheless, if you are able to get your satiation level up to full, passive healing will occur each time you take damage. Another great option for healing in Avowed is healing foods, although keep in mind that the value of foods for healing is somewhat limited when you are in combat. Indeed, unlike health potions that take effect immediately while in combat, cooked foods only take effect immediately outside of fights; however, while in combat, their effects will be incredibly slow and delayed. Thus, it’s better to keep healing foods back for post-fight healing and use health potions during the battle itself.
There are plenty of excellent healing recipes in Avowed that can help restore your HP and are relatively easy to get hold of. Cooked rabbit or cooked rabbit bits are one such example, which is not only relatively easy to get hold of but restores 150 health for the whole rabbit or 200 health if consumed as cooked bits individually (with each dish of cooked rabbit bits restoring 40 HP). Moreover, Pargrun Ale, made from grain, vegetables, and rotten food, can increase your maximum health by 20% (perhaps ironically, given it’s made from gone off ingredients!)
