Abilities. Attributes. Both are incredibly important when planning your new character for your next Avowed playthrough. However, understanding the differences between abilities and attributes can sometimes feel a little tricky, especially if you’ve not played the game before. Fortunately, today, we’re exploring the world of abilities and attributes in Avowed to help you understand more about these two traits (and, critically, how they differ from one another).
When planning your new character in Avowed, there’s a lot you’ll need to think about - and your abilities and attributes are among the most important factors to think about here. Whereas your character’s background will largely just impact speech options and provide fun new roleyplaying opportunities, your abilities and attributes directly influence how you play the game. Given this, there’s no room to get it wrong. Your character’s attributes are your basic starting stats, and these include six different attributes: might, constitution, dexterity, perception, intellect, and resolve. Your attributes can be respecced throughout the game, provided you have enough currency to do so.
Abilities, meanwhile, are more like unique perks that you can pick up during your travels. Abilities will allow you to strengthen your character and open new opportunities. Abilities can be both active and passive. Given the aforementioned points, once you’ve learned how to make Avowed server and have set up your game with a reliable, lag-free private server, it’s definitely worth taking some time to plan your character properly.
Thus far, we’ve looked briefly at what abilities and attributes are in Avowed, however, a key question remains: what’s the difference between abilities vs attributes in Avowed? Well, there are a couple of subtle differences that are worth keeping in mind.
Now, attributes relate to your character’s base stats, with each attribute directly impacting a specific function in the game. These are as follows:
As can be seen from the summary above, the different attributes in Avowed have very different effects on your gameplay. Moreover, it’s worth keeping in mind that your attributes can sometimes open up new speech checks if you are suitably skilled in a specific attribute; perception is one of the most common attribute checks, so it’s worth keeping this in mind. In contrast to attributes, which directly impact a few key traits, abilities work differently. Instead, abilities can be unlocked throughout the game and directly boost a single trait. Abilities are unlocked on an ability tree system, and these fall into four different categories: fighter, ranger, wizard, and godlike abilities. Godlike abilities are unlocked through ancient memories that can be found during your adventures in the game; in contrast, fighter, ranger, and wizard abilities are unlocked when you rank up.
Each ability can be upgraded by up to three ranks, depending on your character’s level. These directly impact a certain action, such as the ability to parry. It’s also possible to take abilities from each of the different ability trees, although keep in mind here that the more you multi-spec your character, the fewer high-level abilities you’ll be able to unlock. Don’t forget that your companions also have a number of abilities that can lend themselves incredibly well during your travels.
You can reset your attributes or abilities directly within your character’s menu. Near in mind that this will cost gold; the price is typically 250 gold for the first resent, but this is based on the number of points you have taken. As such, you’ll have to pay more if you’ve already specced your character well.
There are four different ability types, or trees, in Avowed. These are fighter, wizard, ranger, and godlike. The three former abilities are unlocked through their ability trees, whereas godlike abilities are unlocked during your travels.
There’s no way to say which ability tree is best in Avowed as this will depend on your specific playstyle. Fighter will often be best for melee characters, ranger for those using ranged weapons, and wizard for those using magic.
Abilities and attributes are both exceptionally important when it comes to your game of Avowed; however, it’s important to keep in mind here that these are highly distinct from eachother, and you’ll ideally need to focus on both to build a strong character capable of surviving in the Living Lands. Fortunately, if you find that your attributes might not be well balanced to your current playstyle, you can always respec them if you have the gold to do so.
