The 1.16.3 update of Minecraft was released in October 2020, and provides a new set of updates to enhance and improve the existing Minecraft formula. The update may not have been the biggest available, but it did give us a few key changes which made all the difference to how the game is played overall.

As we’re all pretty aware, the world of Minecraft is one which is based around the acquisition of resources to create new and larger options. These new updates don’t exactly shake the whole game up, but at the same time, they make for some interesting mechanics.

This particular update is mostly to do with mechanics inside the Nether. The Nether is kind of like the second part of the game - finding the resources to even get there will require you to make considerable progress in the overworld. Entry to the Nether will require obsidian blocks and a flint & steel. The latter is easy to find, but it is the obsidian which is a challenge - diamonds are necessary for mining tools or you need to invest in an obsidian generator.

So what this new update does is provide a couple of interesting mechanics. We’ve summarised them here for you now:

• Giving a gold ingot and item to a baby Piglin, and then killing it will result in item duplication.
• Piglins, Piglin Brutes, Hoglins and Zoglins will all now have issues when it comes to navigating towards players while attacking.

So, as you can tell, this does change up the mechanic of things quite a bit. What you need to understand is that there is considerable potential to use these new updates to your advantage.

Item duplication is never a bad thing, and it means that you can give a rare item to the Piglin and then use that to get a new one at no cost. A diamond or an Eye of Ender would be a good choice in this regard.

The other update makes it fairer when encountering hostile mobs. It is often the case that an unprepared player is chased down and overwhelmed by a mob of Piglin, because when one is attacked, it opens the door for all of them to rush the player. Their difficulty in finding paths means that they will be less likely to investigate and chase down players in such overwhelming numbers.

In conclusion, the introduction of 1.16.3 means that when it comes to the world of the Nether, things have changed up a little. Item duplication is obviously not something that any player will turn their nose up at, and it is always interesting to see how it all plays out. When it comes to how we do things in regards to gameplay, these are fairly disconnected from the main game however. The functional premise remains the same. Go from the overworld to the Nether to the End, and continue to collect more resources as and when you need them.
